COOL OUT 2024 – SONGWRITING CONTEST RULES

Who can enter
The Cool Out 2024 Songwriting Competition is open to songwriters aged 18 years and up who have Caymanian status and are legally residing in the Cayman Islands.

Original Song Requirements
Entrants are required to compose an original song inspired by one of Barefoot Man’s classic songs selected by Deep Roots Entertainment Ltd, the organizer of Cool Out 2024, a multi-faced event which will take place in the Cayman Islands on 14 – 17 November 2024.

Three of Barefoot Man's beloved classics have been handpicked for reinterpretation by participating songwriters and licensed by Barefoot Man to Deep Roots Entertainment for this specific purpose. Each song offers a glimpse into the depth and diversity of Barefoot Man's artistry:
-
"Don't Steal Me Coconuts" – A tune that carries the vibrant pulse of the Cayman's sandy shores and crystalline waters.
-
"The Lady By the Sea" – A melody that echoes the rich and storied traditions of island life.
-
"Come Back to the Cayman Islands" – A ballad that speaks to the heart, resonating with the warmth and spirit of the local community.

Contest entrant’s composition must consist of their own original work and may be (is not required to be) combined with Barefoot Man’s licensed works as described above.

Important Information and Rules
All submissions must not infringe any copyrights or any other rights of any third parties.
Entrants are limited to one song submission per account.
Entries to the competition can be submitted individually or in collaboration with others.
All song entries must be recorded from start to finish, including all sections of the song. The accompaniment/music must be masterminded by the entrant(s), however, it can be played by family or friends if the entrant is unable to do so. The entrant must include who’s playing each instrument in the recording, whether they’ve chosen anyone else to sing the vocals, and whether they’ve had any help in the production of the song.

Deep Roots Entertainment reserves the right to remove submissions from the contest if the submissions are deemed offensive or detrimental to the reputation of the festival or its sponsors as determined in the sole discretion of Deep Roots Entertainment.

The winner of the contest will be notified on or before 16th November 2024 and, if invited to do so, the winner must agree to make themselves reasonably available for publicity and appearances as a condition precedent to receiving the contest prizes, which shall be determined and announced in the sole discretion of Deep Roots Entertainment.

Entry is free of charge.
Entrants can use songwriting apps such as GarageBand and Soundtrap and their available sounds. Entrants can’t use pre-recorded loops in loop libraries. They can record their own loops within their remix of the song. Entrants do not need a professional recording! However, a good recording can most certainly help to enhance the impact of entrant’s original song.

In submitting an entry, entrant’s confirm that the entry is their own collaborative original work inspired by the licensed song of Barefoot Man described above and agree to abide by these Contest Rules. Entry in the competition constitutes permission to use the entrants’ name and photo for promotional and publicity purposes on the Col+Lab website and social media platforms and in publicity and promotional materials and press releases in relation to the Cool Out initiative.
Entrants and Barefoot Man will each own 50% copyright of the recordings submitted to the contest unless agreed otherwise between the Entrant and Barefoot Man. Entrants may share the recordings with friends and family, including via the internet, provided there is no commercial exploitation of the music or recording without the express written consent of Barefoot. The entrants and Barefoot Man each grant Deep Roots Entertainment a license to use the recordings (including the music and lyrics) for promotional and publicity purposes.
The contest rules are subject to change at the sole discretion of Deep Roots Entertainment.
